The Kalachakra Mandala was designed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

It can be interpreted as the floor plan of the Kalachakra abode in the pure environment. It depicts large buildings or palaces standing on a raised base, with four walls, each with a door in the middle.

The entire building is covered by a roof. The five floors of the palace symbolize the levels of body, speech and mind, untouched awareness and great bliss. The colors of the four directions correspond to the colors of the four faces of the Kalachakra. Black in front, red on the right, white on the left and yellow on the back.

The palace is surrounded by various souvenirs and rests on yellow, white, red and gray-blue discs, which symbolize the five elements – space, wind, fire, water and earth.

The depiction of the mandala is used by practitioners of Kalachakra tantra for visualization in meditation.

Every aspect of the mandala has a meaning, nothing is superfluous or arbitrary.

As part of the training, the practitioner develops the power of meditative concentration to be able to visualize not only every detail of the mandala, but also the deities present within it.
